GMAIL ENHANCED SECURITY WITH DEFAULT HTTPS

Saturday, January 23, 2010
Security is major concern when we are on internet. Apart from Fake page (phishing) method other widely used hacking method is sniffing. In which any sniffer software like “Cain and Abel” sniff the data sent over network and using a decoder hacker capture the password and other sensitive information’s. One easy way to get over such issue is using HTTPS over HTTP.

Earlier HTTPS used to be an optional option in Gtalk , which you can enable or disable from settings. Usually a normal user will never notice this setting. Today Gmail team released an update in which they are keeping HTTPS on by default. This default HTTPS settings will be very useful for non-tech users.

We are currently rolling out default https for everyone. If you’ve previously set your own https preference from Gmail Settings, nothing will change for your account. If you trust the security of your network and don’t want default https turned on for performance reasons, you can turn it off at any time by choosing “Don’t always use https” from the Settings menu.
